This is the part of amoviti that matters most, and it is worth reading in full even if you skip everything else.
The one rule underneath everything
amoviti never decides that something has happened. A person does. Silence and inactivity never release anything on their own. For a death, at least two people you named must confirm.
The kinds of emergency workflow
- •Hospitalization — you are in hospital. Who to call, what to bring, and who looks after work, bills and home.
- •If I can't speak for myself — you are alive but unable to decide or sign, for example after a stroke. The steps that get someone the authority to act for you.
- •After I'm Gone — what your family does first, and what your estate needs later. It opens in two stages.
- •Custom workflows — anything else you worry about, such as being detained while travelling. You write the steps.
The ready-made workflows are templates: nothing runs until you set one up and save it. Building and reviewing workflows is free on every plan; starting them, check-ins and timers need Plus or Signature.
What a workflow contains
Each workflow has two phases — the first 24 hours and the first week. Each step says what to do and who does it, and can carry:
- •Your own message — up to 2,000 characters, written in your words.
- •The documents it needs — specific documents you choose, never a whole category.
- •The order to try people in, and how long to wait before moving on.
How to build a workflow
- 1.Open Emergency and choose a workflow.
- 2.Review the suggested steps and keep, remove or reword them.
- 3.Assign each step to the people responsible and set the order.
- 4.Attach the documents each step needs.
- 5.For After I'm Gone, name at least two people who can confirm your death.
- 6.Save. The workflow shows as ready once nothing is missing.
How an emergency starts
| Workflow | Who can start it | Before anything is released |
|---|---|---|
| Hospitalization | You in the app, or a saved contact through your Emergency Portal | If you start it, nothing. If someone else reports it, one person you listed as your spouse or main contact confirms |
| If I can't speak for myself | Only after a missed check-in, when one of your people says you are alive but cannot act | Two confirmations, or one plus 48 hours with no reply from you |
| After I'm Gone | A saved contact, through your Emergency Portal — never you | One named confirmer opens the urgent steps; two, plus seven days with no reply from you, opens the estate |
| Custom | You in the app, or a timer you set and did not cancel | Nothing — custom workflows are yours alone |
Your Emergency Portal
Your Emergency Portal is how anyone other than you reports an emergency. It is reached with your Emergency ID — the one you add to your phone's lock screen or give to the people you trust.
Anyone can open it, but nobody gets further without proving who they are: their name and relationship must match a contact you saved, and they enter a one-time code sent to the email you saved for them. You are told about every attempt.
A report is not a confirmation. A report counts as a confirmation only if you named that person as a confirmer. Anyone else's report opens the emergency, contacts your confirmers and asks you whether you are safe — but releases nothing on its own.
What happens once a workflow starts
- 1.The emergency opens. Who started it, how and when is recorded in an audit trail you can read.
- 2.You are asked if you are safe — straight away, and again every day while it is open.
- 3.Your people are contacted in your order — by email, one at a time. When someone acknowledges, amoviti stops chasing that step. If nobody does, it moves to the next person after 15 minutes unless you set a different wait. It never contacts anyone you did not list.
- 4.Each person gets their part — the steps assigned to them and the documents attached to those steps, nothing else. They confirm their email with a one-time code, and their access ends after 72 hours unless you chose otherwise.
- 5.Everything is visible to you — who was contacted, who acknowledged, what was opened and when.
A document someone has already downloaded cannot be taken back, which is why each step should carry only what it needs.
After a death
| Stage | Opens when | Contains |
|---|---|---|
| Urgent | One person you named confirms — no waiting | Who to call, in your order, and your first-day steps |
| Estate | Two people you named confirm, then seven days with no reply from you | The documents you attached — will, trust, insurance, financial inventory |
The seven days start when the second person confirms. The wait delays nothing legal — probate does not begin in the first week — but it gives you, or anyone who was told, time to stop a report that is wrong. The people you attached documents to open them with a one-time code sent to their email.
If someone objects
Anyone told about an emergency can object with one tap. One objection holds the estate stage for seven days; two or more hold it for thirty. What your family already received for the first days stays with them.
Nobody adjudicates. There is no referee who rules on whether someone died — a hold ends on its own, or immediately when you answer.
If you are alive and this happens anyway
Tap I'm safe — in the app, or from the link in the email amoviti sends you. The emergency ends straight away, and every document it shared is revoked.
Signing in alone does not end an emergency: it shows amoviti you are around, but only I'm safe closes it — so a relative holding your phone cannot end it by accident. Ending an emergency is never behind a paywall.
Your account after a death
In Privacy settings you choose what happens to your account later:
- •Keep it read-only — the default.
- •Delete it after 6, 12 or 24 months.
- •Hand it to your executor — the person you named.
None of these happens on anyone's word alone. Your executor sends the death certificate through your Emergency Portal — or emails it to support@amoviti.com — and a person reviews it before anything changes.
Changing who can confirm your death
Your first two confirmers take effect straight away. Every change after that waits 72 hours, and amoviti emails you meanwhile. If someone else ever got into your account, that window is when you would find out — and they could not swap in an accomplice the same afternoon.
If your confirmers ever drop below two — someone is deleted, or someone dies — amoviti tells you plainly that nobody can currently confirm your death, and keeps telling you until you fix it.
Check-ins
Check-ins notice when you go quiet. If a month passes with no activity from you, amoviti reminds you several times. If you still do not respond, it emails the people you chose and asks them what happened. Nothing is released until one of them answers.
Activity means doing something — uploading, editing, changing a setting. Simply reading does not count, because reading is exactly what someone going through your account after a death would do.
Timers
Before something risky — a trip, a procedure — you can arm one of your custom workflows to run at a time you choose. Cancel it when you are through. If you do not, amoviti tries to warn you first, then runs it. Only you can arm or cancel a timer, and nobody is told anything unless it runs.
Your Emergency ID
The ID someone you trust enters at your Emergency Portal to report an emergency for you. Add it to your phone's lock screen — Medical ID on iPhone, Emergency info on Android — so it can be read without unlocking your phone. It starts a conversation — it does not authorize anything, and knowing it gives nobody access. If it reaches someone it should not, regenerate it: the old ID stops working at once.
